The Fault Indication and Monitor System (FIMS) is used on San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) commute trains to alert the operator to electrical, hydraulic, heating and cooling system status. The environmentally-sealed NEMA-4 enclosure keeps the internal controller from contaminants.
The FIMS enclosure features a milled front bezel and lens to accommodate the Zendex-designed IR touch screen lamps and sensors. I/O is accomplished with a RS422 port.
The ZXPC-5310 accepts ASCII characters and displays them on the EL screen. The unit uses a 512 by 256 pixel screen and can display up to 21 lines of 64 characters. In addition to displaying screen characters, the controller supports individual pixel control and line drawing routines for graphics display. The unit incorporates a user input IR touch screen interface, physically configured as an 8 X 16 LED matrix with a screen matrix resolution of 15 by 31. The display area is defined as 25 lines of 80 characters, each character consisting of 6 by 10 pixels. Therefore, there are 480 pixels across the screen that can be individually addressed and controlled.
