Dublin, California, March 11, 2002 --- Zendex Corporation, a 20-year veteran of the embedded control system industry, has developed the ZXE-x86 embedded controller with as much as 1GB+ of flash, EPROM or RAM which can be accessed via Ethernet or the Internet. The ZXE-x86 can perform real time control of an operation while allowing data to be remotely downloaded or programs to be remotely uploaded.
The ZXE-x86 is one of the first to incorporate the revolutionary ZF Micro ZFx86 (formerly MachZ) microprocessor. The chip's recovery from bad software uploads to flash memory is benign, making it idea for remote-controlled operations. Complementing the processor is the robust Linux operating system including web server and 12 x 32-pin DIP memory sockets for 1GB+ of flash, EPROM or RAM. Applications include gaming, industrial control, information kiosks, monitoring and surveillance systems.
"Accessing a real time controller's recorded data and changing its program functions via Ethernet is far less expensive than retrieving data or making program changes in person" observed Howard Czapla, President of Zendex. "Companies have developed a need for remote control, and our boards have changed to reflect that need. We anticipate the need for remote control will continue to grow."
The fully-featured ZXE-x86 embedded controller board includes many conventional features such as:
Ethernet interface
ZF Micro ZFx86 CPU with up to 256MB DRAM
Floppy interface
IDE primary/secondary interface
PS/2 keyboard and mouse interface
2 buffered TTL serial ports
2 RS-232 serial ports
2 RS-422/485 serial ports
Printer port
1GB+ of flash, EPROM or RAM

The ZXE-x86 feature set can be changed by selecting the hardware to meet the OEM's needs. System functionality can then be changed by replacing the memory ICs or by uploading programs via any I/O port. Field re-programming can be accomplished using the Internet, floppy or serial interface ports.
A PCMCIA connector allows additional functionality including local data recording for applications such as data archiving or precise geographical location when using a GPS-PCMCIA card.
Price for the fully-featured ZXE-x86 embedded controller is $995.00 for single units. Custom orders are encouraged.
